Breckland Council has officially announced a significant partnership with The Damara School in Thetford, leasing a council-owned building on Raymond Street to the specialist educational institution. This agreement is a landmark step for The Damara School Thetford, enabling it to expand its crucial services for children who face challenges in traditional schooling environments. The newly acquired facility, The Maltings Thetford, will provide a secure and nurturing space, empowering the school to enhance its programs and positively impact more local children. The Damara School, under the guidance of The Lotus Academy Trust, is dedicated to helping every student achieve their full potential by offering tailored educational and therapeutic support.

Cllr Paul Hewett, Breckland Council's Executive Member for Property, Projects, and Procurement, emphasized that this lease underscores a mutual commitment from both the council and The Damara School towards the betterment of the Thetford community. He highlighted that this collaboration will ensure the continued provision of much-needed specialized educational services. Sandra Govender, CEO and Headteacher for The Lotus Academy Trust and The Damara School, expressed her enthusiasm for securing The Maltings. She outlined plans to grow the school to accommodate up to 32 children experiencing significant social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties. The school's vision remains steadfast: to support each child through therapeutic and holistic education and pastoral care, preparing them to navigate life's pressures and contribute positively to society.
